What
is body temperature?
The
body's temperature varies depending on the environment. The temperature of the
extremities of the hands and feet and the surface of the face is unstable
because it is easily affected by the season and the environment.
On
the other hand, the internal temperature of the body, called the center
(nucleus), is stable in order to maintain the functions of important organs
such as the brain and heart. This temperature inside the body is called the
"core temperature," and if you measure it, you can obtain a stable
body temperature. However, since it is inside the body, it is difficult to
measure it on a daily basis.
Therefore,
places such as the armpit (armpit), mouth (under the tongue), ear (inside the
ear), rectum, etc., are used as parts that reflect the temperature inside the
body and can be easily measured without putting a burden on the body.
The
time and method required for temperature measurement differ depending on the
part to be measured, and the obtained temperature also differs. Since the
normal temperature also varies depending on the part, it is necessary to know
the normal temperature of each part. In other words, it is important to know
beforehand that ears have normal temperatures for ears and armpits for
armpits.
The
correct temperature measurement method in the armpit
It
is basic to remain still during the temperature measurement without moving.
1.
Place the tip of the clinical thermometer diagonally
on the center of the underarm hollow.
2.
Adjust the angle so that the thermometer is about 30 degrees to the body axis,
and close the armpits tightly.
3.
Mercury thermometers and "actual" thermometers take 10 minutes or
longer to reach an equilibrium temperature.
Precautions
before temperature measurement
•
Please avoid taking a temperature measurement for 30 minutes after eating,
drinking, bathing, exercising, etc., or after entering the room from outside.
•
Before measuring, be sure to wipe off the sweat from your armpits (be careful,
especially for children, as they sweat a lot)
Know
your normal temperature
•
Body temperature rises after eating, bathing, and exercising. Before taking
your temperature, give yourself at least 30 minutes.
•
In order to understand the diurnal fluctuation of normal body temperature,
record (memo) the time when the temperature was measured along with the
measured body temperature.
•
For children, their body temperature rises after they cry, so take your
temperature when they are in a good mood or while they are sleeping.
Summary
Keep
in mind that the timing of measuring body temperature is an important factor.
Currently,
taking a reading from the forehead and armpits is the most common way to
monitor body temperature. The one that can be measured on the forehead is very
easy to use in terms of short time and convenience.
On
the other hand, it has the characteristic that it is greatly influenced by the
environment in which it is measured.
Before
applying a clinical
thermometer online, it's critical to comprehend them well and
be aware of their limitations.
